Born in the volcanic grasslands of Chahar, deep in the heart of Inner Mongolia, Delehei has taken up the mantle of a musical explorer. His life’s work is a mesmerizing journey of discovery and innovation – unearthing the ancient rhythms, melodies, and techniques of Mongolian roots music, and reviving traditional instruments on the brink of extinction.
From the rhythmic, primal strumming of the Morin Khuur, the hauntingly ethereal sounds of the Xiudugri and Yougen Khuur, to the percussive notes of the Bongdun Chaer, Delehei’s music transcends time and space. His unique “one-man band” blends the mysterious and ancient Khoomai singing style with the symphony of his instruments, brought to life through the seamless synchronization with modern synthesizing equipment.
No concert hall or stage is too big or small for Delehei’s grand symphony. He has taken his mesmerizing sounds and performances to over ten countries, including the vibrant streets of Europe, the cultural melting pot of the United States, the wide-open expanses of Australia, the futuristic cityscapes of Japan, and the remote, tranquil lands of Tuva. His music paints a vivid picture of Mongolian folk heritage in an unprecedented form, sharing it with the world, one note at a time.
